Accommodating those with Disabilities
We welcome people at our event that may have disabilities. We want to do our best to accommodate them as much as we possibly can so they can enjoy the event as well. If you need assistance, please let any of our volunteers or attendants know either in advance (by emailing [email protected]) or requesting one of the Head Wizards at the front door during the day of.
Registered service dogs are allowed. This is the correct protocol when having an encounter with a person that has a service dog:
Always address the handler first, never the animal
Handlers are not required to have their medical documentation, identification cards, training documentation so please do not ask for it.
Do not try to force the handler to open about their disability as it can be upsetting.
Always ask to pet the dog before trying to pet and understand if the handler says no.
Do not ask for the dog to demonstrate tasks at times it is not appropriate for the tasks as it can confuse the dog later on – this includes not making distracting noises toward the animal (kissing or whistling noises).
Do not try to give the animal treats or water without permission.
Do not take pictures of the animal without the handlers permission as it can feel like an invasion of privacy.
Do not force yourself on the animal or handler such as getting in either of their faces as it can be overwhelming.
Thank you for helping make this a comfortable and fun experience for everyone!
